CAUTHE 2018 - Call for Papers & Announcement of Keynote SPEAKERS

The University of Newcastle, Australia, is delighted to be hosting the 28th Annual CAUTHE conference from 5-8 February 2018. The conference will be held at the NeW Space City Campus in the heart of the beautiful coastal city of Newcastle.

The theme of the CAUTHE 2018 conference is Get Smart: Parodoxes and Possibilities in Tourism, Hospitality and Events. CAUTHE 2018 will bring together researchers from across the globe to focus a critical lens on the creation and generation of knowledge in tourism, hospitality and events. CAUTHE 2018 acknowledges that the process of building knowledge – and getting smart about tourism, hospitality and events – can generate a series of paradoxes, ironies and juxtapositions that challenge conventions and create new alternative ways of knowing.

We welcome innovative contributions that focus on how tourism, hospitality and events are experienced and developed. We encourage papers on teaching, curriculum and pedagogical research, as well as theoretical and empirical studies relating to tourism hospitality and events. The CAUTHE 2018 organising committee welcomes Full Research Papers and Working Papers via a number of topics relevant to the conference theme. These sub-themes include:

  • Digital technologies in tourism, hospitality and events
  • Smart cities and smart destinations
  • Destination image and branding
  • Destination reputation and place identity
  • The rise and regulation of the sharing economy
  • International travel trends and emerging tourist markets
  • Indigenous tourism and travel for cultural learning
  • Market segmentation for destination policy and planning
  • Volunteering, global citizenship and cosmopolitanism
  • Methodologies in tourism, hospitality and events research
  • Knowledge systems in tourism, hospitality and events
  • Tourism, hospitality and events teaching, learning and curricula

We are thrilled to have four keynote speakers with substantial expertise in tourism, hospitality and events research to present plenary sessions focused on how we Get Smart about tourism hospitality and events:

  • Professor Annette Prichard, The University of Cardiff
  • Professor Sara Dolnicar, The University of Queensland
  • Professor Cathy Hsu, Hong Kong Polytechnic University
  • Ms Cherie Johsnon, Managing Director of Speaking in Colour

We will also be running research workshops and a panel discussion featuring experts in tourism, hospitality and events in digital spaces. The workshop facilitators and panel of experts will be announced shortly.
